The most amazing experience that I have had on a field
was at an under 12 division 6 match here in Australia.
Me and bth of my assistants were doing one of the
preliminary finals, and it was do or die for both
teams, the winner going to the grand final the next
week. The game before had been pretty nasty and the
other referee hadn't had the best of games, so I
decided that I would go out there and have some fun.
The game was fairly easy, with one team scoring early,
and the other team scoring with only three seconds on
the clock to tie the game together at one all. So, by
competition rules, we played extra time with the green
team winning in the 12th minute of extra time.
We (The referees) met in the centre of the park and
started to leave the field to go to dressing sheds.
As we got to the edge of the field, The entire crowd
got onto it's feet and started clapping, I looked
across my shoulder, expecting to find one of the teams
warming down by running across the park, but both
teams were clustered around the technical areas. then
it hit me:
We were getting a standing ovation!
That was the best experience that I have had as a referee.
