Question Number: 22851Law 14 - Penalty kick 2/22/2010RE: Classic Under 15 Larry Beguin of Swansboro, NC USA asks...If, during a PK, the player taking the shot misses and the ball strikes the left post may that same player follow his attempt and be credited with a score if he should put the ball into the goal? Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham No. Like most restarts, the kicker cannot touch the ball a second time until the ball has been touched by another player (from either team). If the kicker touches the ball on a penalty kick after it rebounds from the crossbar or goalpost (before any other player has touched the ball), play will be stopped and the opposing team receive an indirect free kick. One of the reasons that referees often shout out the number of the kicker is to remind the referee and help the assistant referee determine who was the kicker.

View Referee Dennis Wickham profileAnswer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Larry The ball has to be touched/played by another player before the penalty taker can play/touch the ball again. If the ball rebounds off the crossbar/post and the penalty kicker touches the ball again he has infringed Law 14 and play is stopped with an IDFK awarded to the opponents from where he touched the ball.
