Question Number: 25924

Law 4 - Players Equipment 1/26/2012

RE: Select Under 17

Rakshit of Mumbai, Maharastra India asks...

What if a player's shoe came out but he goes on to score a goal,is the goal awarded if no then how is it restarted..?

Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh

Hi Rakshit
If a player loses his shoe in the act of scoring a goal, the referee awards the goal and restarts with a kick off to the conceding team. A player is not allowed to continue to play without a shoe and the referee must ensure that the player replaces his shoe.

Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol

A player may continue to play for a short time after losing his shoe. How short is up to the referee, but a couple of touches and a shot on goal is OK for sure. Once the player takes his shot or makes a pass, he must retrieve his shoe and put it on before participating in play again.

Answer provided by Referee Keith Contarino

A player may play a brief time without a shoe and if he scores a goal it should count.
The referee must make sure the shoe is retrieved and put back on as soon as possible
