passes it back towards his goalkeeper who misses it completely not touching it and it enters the goals, what is the decision given in this case. Answer provided by Referee Joe McHugh Hi Ron
It is a corner kick if the free kick was taken outside the PA. If it is taken inside the PA the free kick is retaken as the ball did not come into play. A team cannot score a goal directly from any restart into its own goal.

View Referee Joe McHugh profileAnswer provided by Referee Gary Voshol If the site of the free kick was inside the penalty area, then the ball has never come into play and the kick must be retaken.
If the kick was from outside the penalty area, then the ball has crossed the goal line, last touched by the defending team, but a goal was not scored. Thus it is a corner kick. Teams may not score upon themselves on any restart.

If it was inside the penalty area then the ball was never put in play and the kick must be retaken. If outside the penalty area, the restart is a corner kick because you cannot score on yourself at any restart
