Question Number: 23658Law 17 - Corner Kick 7/12/2010RE: None Adult James of Houston, Texas USA asks...Is there ever a situation where a team is required to take a corner kick from their own goal? I think I remember seeing such a kick during the world cup. Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham Any foul by the attacking team that occurs in the one yard arc at each corner would result in a free kick for the defense that would look as if the defender team is taking a corner kick. Moreover, if on a regular corner kick there is a double touch violation by the kicking team, the restart would be an indirect free kick where the second touch occurred. This also would look similar to a corner kick by the defense . But, the answer to your question is no. The only time a corner kick is awarded is when the ball crosses the goal line (not a goal) and the ball was last touched by a member of the defending team. If it was last touched by a member of the attacking team, the restart is always a goal kick.
