Question Number: 23480Law 16 - Goal Kick 6/15/2010RE: Adult rasheshwarnath of mumbai, maharashtra india asks...1) goalie takes a goal kick, it sails the field of play and sails over the opposing goalie and lands in the net. will this be considered a goal?? 2) goalie collects the ball driven by an opposing forward and kicks it back into play, it sails the length of the field and over the opposing goalie and lands into the goal, is it a goal?? Answer provided by Referee Gary Voshol 1. Yes, a goal, goal kicks have been direct kicks since 1997. 2. Yes, it's a goal. The keeper handling the ball and then playing it is no different than any other legal play of the ball. It is not a restart; it is merely a unique method of dynamic play allowed only to the keeper. The goalkeeper could throw the ball the length of the field, if he's strong enough, and score a goal.
