Question Number: 22925Law 12 - Fouls and Misconduct 3/9/2010RE: rec Under 11 Rodger Hopkins of vicksburg, mS united States asks...This question is a follow up to question 98776 Ball is passed back to the teams' own goalie, he picks it up. Result, an indirect for the other team but from where? He picked it up a foot from the goal line.. Answer provided by Referee Dennis Wickham The restart is where the foul occurs, and that is where the keeper touched the ball. The exception is if the this occurs inside the goal area, the restart will be taken on the six yard line perpendicular to where the ball was touched.

This is one of the IDFK offenses listed in Law 12 that apply to goalkeepers only. The ball has to be deliberately kicked by a defender to a place where the keeper can use his hands to pick it up. If the keeper uses his hands to pick up a ball deliberately kicked - meaning on purpose, not miskicked or deflected - the kick will be awarded where the keeper picked up the ball, unless it was in the goal area (smaller rectangle) in which case it comes out to the top of the goal area line closest to where he picked it up.

If it happened inside the goal area the IDFK is from he goal area line parallel to the goal line at the point nearest to where the infringement occurred.
