Question Number: 19833Law 2 - The Ball 8/27/2008RE: Rec Other Melissa of Bothell, Washington USA asks...Just as the attacker takes the shot on goal, the ball bursts and rolls to a stop just in front of him. He then kicks the ball into the net. Whats the call? Answer provided by Referee Steve Montanino As soon as the referee realizes that the ball has become defective and no longer meets the requirements of Law 2, he should stop play.
The referee should then have the ball replaced by another one that meets the requirements of the law and he should restart play with a dropped ball where the ball became defective. If this happened in one of the goal areas the ball must be dropped at the top of the goal area (the long line that runs parallel to the goal line) at the nearest point to where the ball became defective.
